The chattering of House Sparrows greeted the start of my early patrol, three of them perched in the Bramble scrub just by the building.
Two gorgeous pairs of Bullfinch nearby, the bright pink chests showing as they perched amongst bushes, the duller females alongside.
Along the coast path the Stonechat were chatting, a female was perched on the top of the Gorse, holding a Spider in its beak, the fat body and long legs dangling.
Wandering along the path are masses of Brown-tailed Caterpillars, these very hairy creatures making me itch even as I looked at them. Not too be touched as they are very irritating.
A quick wander towards the pond where the Bog Bean and Lady’s Smock are in bloom and the leaves of Flag Iris are growing tall.
From overhead came the sound of a Skylark as it sung loudly, as I listened and searched against the clouds another one fluttered up and joined in. Such an amazing sound.
The cattle were lying amongst the Tor Grass, chewing the cud, the newly born calves curled up with Cowslips and Early Purple Orchids all around.
Some wonderful bright blue Chalk Milkwort and the yellow Horseshoe Vetch carpeting the downs, while on the cliffs the pink Thrift and white Sea Campion is in bloom.
Common Whitethroats singing from many Blackthorn perches, as were Lesser Whitethroats, normally these warblers are skulking in the scrub but seem to be unusually obvious this year.
Blackcaps, Yellowhammer, Chaffinches, Chiffchaffs and Dunnocks all singing, whilst a Green Woodpecker cackled and a Jay squawked as they flew over.
