A warm autumnal morning with a light due on the ground as I head out into the meadows this morning. The sun is just starting to burn through the haze of cloud cover. Blackthorn is covered in slows, easier to see now the leaves have started to fall. A nearby Sycamore is showing the first signs of the leaves turning browns and yellows.
The trilling of a Wren perched on a fence pulls my attention to the little bird showing off. Somewhere hidden in the scrub a Chiffchaff can be heard calling.
Heading through Saxon meadow the last few remaining bits of Yarrow can be seen in flower, there white flower heads standing out against the green grass. Hawks Beard can also be seen with its flower heads tightly furled waiting for the sun to make its appearance. The twinkling sound of Meadow Pipits bobbing across the sky over head.
Along the top of ten the sound of Robins calling to each other from different sides of the gully. Heading back along the path a Blackcap briefly makes an appearance in a Hawthorn. A Song Thrush also makes an appearance briefly further along the path, before spoking and disappearing out of sight. Two Cirl Bunting fly in and land on some scrub nearby, there stripes through there eyes making them distinctive.
Along the top of light house, a flash of bright lime green, zooms by as a Greenfinch hurries past. Further towards the end of the path the scrub seems alive with Great Tits flit in all directions their distinctive call filling the air.
