A grey morning, the sound of a Wren trilling from the low growing Privet as I headed towards the woodland. The Wren popping up onto a branch, tail cocked upwards and pale stripe just above its eye.
One of our large Sallows was being used as a feeding station by some Chiffchaffs, perhaps after the good selection of insect life hidden under the leaves.
A few Swallows whizzing alongside the hedge, at my head height so coming straight towards me – who would blink first?!
It has been an amazing year for the Hummingbird Hawk-moth, in a normal summer you might see a dozen, this year it has been that many a day, and even in the dull of the early morning, two of these amazing creatures we humming around the purple flowers of the Buddelia. As I admired their long proboscis was probing each individual tiny flower with great accuracy.
Not so many flowers around now, but a patch of Broad-leaved Everlasting Pea providing a splash of pink at ground level, while the Dandelion added a patch of bright yellow petals.
Alongside the path the delicate looking round white globules of the Snowberry to be found, this plant is not really noticed at anytime except when dotted with these balls!
Lying on the ground at the base of a large Holm Oak, was a fungus which looked a bit like a small loaf of bread – most interesting as in need of identifying.
As I stood admiring the sea view, from one of our viewpoints, the water having many patches of calm, as well as some gently breaking waves, a group of 4 Carrion Crows were competing to stand on the uppermost twig of a dead Ash which is precariously growing on the landslip area.
Behind me climbing slowly down the rough bark of the Holm Oak a pale yellow shelled snail – another species to be identified later!
A small flock of Long-tailed Tits dangling and flitting amongst the branches of the Poplar, alongside a Fuschia, covered in deep pinky-red flowers.
