Another warm dry day, though there was enough chill in the air to warrant a jacket, for at least half the walk. With the nice weather comes another great morning for butterflies. Immediately after entering the meadows Gatekeepers appear from no where in all directions fluttering across the path and round my feet. Fleabane and Wild Carrot grow along the verge as I head through 34. Wild Carrot flower heads going over and curling in on themselves.
Though drove in heron ground where a rather wilted looked Burdock in coming into seed, the velcro like seed heads waiting for a fluffy something to walk by and transport its seeds. A Whitethroat appears out of the scrub and perches on the top, its white throat on full display.
Into centenary where Skylarks seems to dart in all directions across the top of the meadow. One is on the path with something in its beak before spoking and flying up and down into the middle of the meadow and out of sight. There light chatter fills the air less song like there usually territory marking tune.
More Gatekeepers flutter around my feet with a few Meadow Browns mixed in. They are joined by a Small Heath butterfly who comes to rest on the footpath ahead of me.
At the top of the gully the soft twittering of Meadow Pipits fills the air. Sitting down to watch as they flutter from bush to bush, some also come to land on the path ahead of me. Heading back along the top of light house a flock of Goldfinch seem to follow me along the path.
