It’s a very foggy morning as well as being slightly windy. Walking across the Learning Centre picnic area I hear a Chiffchaff, Wren, Firecrest, Robins and Magpies. While wildflowers such as Ox-eye Daisies, Field Bindweed, Birds-foot Trefoil, Agrimony, Hogweed, Wild Carrot.
Going through into the south side of South Field, Red Bartsia, Greater Knapweed, Hop Trefoil, and Rough Hawkbit are seen amongst the meadows, whilst a Great Tit in an scrub habitat island of Blackthorn and Brambles is seen and a Whitethroat sings away. To the left of me Small Copse is beautiful with a ghostly haze of Ash, Hawthorn, Sycamore and Holm Oak, and the songs and calls from Robins, Long-tailed Tits and a Jackdaw is heard. Into Saxon side, the Skylarks can be heard high up in the foggy sky, Winter Heliotrope is seen under Blackthorn, and Stinking Iris by the gate into Lighthouse Field.
In Lighthouse Field through the long grasses go with the wind wildflowers spotted are: Red Clover, Selfheal, Eyebright, Pale Flax, Yellow Rattle, Lady’s Bedstraw, Horse-shoe Vetch, Hedge Bedstraw, Common Toadflax, and Restharrow. Taking the lighthouse path, other plants spotted: Kidney Vetch, Pyramidal Orchids, and Wild Thyme. The sound of the sea can is present but not seen, as well as the Goldfinches above and the Pheasant in the distance.
Stopping at the gully bridge, a Wood Pigeon flies off, a Goldfinch seen on top of Blackthorn, a Bullfinch, Wren, Robin, Linnet and Blackbird are all heard – fairly quiet here this morning compared to other diary walks I notice. Onward White Clover and Yellow-wort are spotted.
Going behind the Lighthouse, Milkwort, a few Pyramidal Orchids, and Ragwort are spotted, while many Stonechats are seen calling away at each other in a patch of scrub. Moving on up back to base, many Guillemots are seen with a few Razorbills, Herring Gulls and Cormorants. As well as a loud sound of an unseen boats foghorn which seemed to disturb some of the seabirds with its echo type sound through the fog.
