It’s another morning with light rain and a slight breeze. The first sounds I hear leaving the car is a beautiful song of a Wren. A Wood Pigeon is seen flying out of an Ash tree, while a couple of Blue Tits are seen in between hedges. Further along, before the bird hide, I spot a couple of Magpies one calling away. I check inside of the bird hide, the other day spotted a female Sparrowhawk bathing in the pond, however today, no birds around at all, that said the vegetation is full of Ox-eye Daisies, Birds-foot Trefoil and Common Spotted Orchids.
Walking onwards and into South Field the wind becomes stronger, and the rain gets heavier but that doesn’t stop me from continuing. Heard is a Chiffchaff and Jays call in Large Copse. Wildflowers spotted: Birds-foot Trefoil, Meadow Buttercup, Pale Flax, Red Bartsia, Field Bindweed, Pyramidal Orchid, Common-spotted Orchids, Yellow Rattle, Wild Carrot, Hop Trefoil, Restharrow, Red Clover, White Clover, Ox-eye Daisies, and Rough Hawkbit.
Going through Saxon and looking around the Quar additional wildflowers identified are Kidney Vetch, Horseshoe Vetch, Wild Thyme, Mouse-ear Hawkweed, Eyebright, Greater Knapweed, and a few more Pyramidal Orchids. Sadly, no Bee Orchids this time, the last one seen here a couple of weeks ago has now gone over. Walking onwards Goldfinches are spotted flying above before going into the South side of South Field.
Back into South Field and looking into Small Copse the sound of the wind going through the Holm Oak, Sycamore and Ash as well as the sound of raindrops hitting the ground soothes and calms me. Stinking Iris provides the tiny woodland with a colour of purple from its flowers while a Blue Tit, Robins and Wren are spotted. To the left of me towards an island of Hawthorn, Blackthorn and Brambles a couple of Blackbirds are seen and heard singing away.
Heading back to the Learning Centre Field Scabious and Agrimony as well as the song of a Great Tit appear.
