Wednesday 17th December 2025

An amazing bright red, pink, orange sunrise, cast a wonderful colouring across the sea and park this morning.

Again the Guillemots were packed onto their ledge, with a few whirring in and a few more out, like small clockwork toys.  Three Fulmars were wheeling magnificently in large circles around the cliffs, while a flock of Feral Pigeons swirled in unison flashing their white, brown and black colours.

In the rambling wisps of Old Man’s Beard, a movement caught my attention as a small flock of Long-tailed Tits flitting and swung from the brown ropes.

Nearby 3 Blackcaps, were perched in amongst the Wild Madder and Brambles, this is quite late in the year for these birds to still be present.

Overhead the sound of a few Siskins as well as a Redpoll, plus the charm of Goldfinches which landed on a Hawthorn, like baubles on the ends of the twigs!

Disappearing into the low vegetation a Wren, looking tiny as it went, with a Chaffinch flashing its white wing patches as it perched in the Holm Oak.

In the woods, the large rounded leaves of Winter Heliotrope showing against the floor with the flower spike emerged topped with white and pink flowers.

Along the hedgerow the Japanese Spindle is peppered with small pale pink berries while the Ivy has dark green (changing to black) berries.

A flash of white and a Jay wafted along just ahead of me, then turning to perch in the Willow branches, the sun gleaming off its buff feathers, as it took off again the white rump continued to be seen.

From high in the canopy of Elm and Sycamore the high pitched calls of Goldcrest to be heard, eventually spotted as they moved through the branches, while lower down a Firecrest emerged for a short time, enabling a good (if quick) view of its white eye-stripe.
