Off towards the coast this morning where the sight of the waves crashing against the strong Portland rocks at Tilly Whim was wonderful.
As the white water frothed around the ledges a flock of Jackdaws and then Feral Pigeons zoomed by, the air abounding as if it was tearing as they went.
Gazing outward, I was pleased to be able to spot a glorious gleaming white Gannet. The rays of the sun catching its back as it headed westwards. After this came another and another, the long wings just skimming above the water.
Speeding past these longwings Gannets was a line of Guillemots, their short wings whirring like mad. The Guillemots had just left the main breeding edge on the cliffs, where a few more remained.
A sudden rough zrr call for above was coming from a Brambling, with another heard later as it flew amongst a flock of tinkling Goldfinches.
Other small birds travelling over were some Siskins and a couple of Redpolls, the main migration season is coming to an end, so numbers of most species are dwindling.
A flitting movement from the tops of a Blackthorn, and a tiny Goldcrest could be seen, the bright flash of orange very obvious across its head as it poked its beak in and out of the leaves of the greeny-grey Lichen.
Up the Castle our other miniature species was also showing well, the Firecrest constantly on the move as it flew from twig to twig n the Willow. Watching this bird, its white stripe across its eye was easily spotted, this a distinguishable feature.
Much of the fungi is turning soggy, including a path of Field Blewitt, and another of Parasol Mushrooms, while the Common Puff Balls have little holes in where they have burst seeds and have become hardened.
Back up the hill and the clouds were amazing, some thick, grey and rain filled, others puffy and white.
