Out through the meadows where a cold wind seems to slap you around the face and the bright rising sun casts a golden glow over the park. Over head a large flock of Wood Pigeons accumulates before flying off over the park in perfect formation, the woosh of there collective flight breaking through the strong breeze. After yesterdays rain the ground is slippery and squelchy under foot, I slip and slide my way across the meadow.
Brown Bracken sags along the edges of the path having been beaten and battered by wind and rain, though the damp earthy smell they give off still fills the air as you pass them. a constant company on this morning’s walk are the charms of Goldfinch darting in all directions there twinkling some come to land in a Dog Rose adorned with red rose hips. The golden flow of the sun illuminating the bird’s beautiful plumage.
Though a beautiful morning birds seem to be hunkering down in the hedgerows to be heard but not seen. Some of the regulars can be heard, Great Tits, Blue Tits and Chaffinch, with the occasional melody from a Robin as well. The hedgerows are still adorned with haw berries on Hawthorns, slows on Blackthorn and rose hips on roses their bright colours adding a splash of colour to the landscape which gets more muted in colour with everyday closer to Winter.
The blur of colourful wings passes by overhead, then followed by the familiar cackle of Jay as the bird lands in a nearby tree. Heading into the top of field 3 I spot a bright yellow flower in the short green grass, a very short bedraggled looking Ragwort, the small plant clings to its last remaining flowers. Further along the path another surprise as I notice some very short Greater Knapweed also in flower, the bright purple flower just stinking out over the top of the grass. At the due pond Mayweed can also still be in flower the white daisy like flowers is starting to go over now.
