A short but sweet walk this morning, as I ducked out early to avoid the heavy rain. Through the car park where Great Tits can be heard chattering amongst the berry laden branches of a Hawthorn. Yarrow clings to the edges of the car park just about still flowering.

Over the long meadow a Peregrine Falcon zooms past with a Raven in hot pursuit behind it, both birds screech at each other, as they zoom out of sight.

The hedge rows along Long Meadow are bursting at the seems with berries, Haws, Slows, Blackberries and more. Along the woodchip path in the woodland, Horse Chestnut leaves crunch underfoot, and spikey conker shells litter the path. Shiny hazel brown conkers poke over of the golden-brown leaves, making them appeal like jewels strewn across the floor.

A Wren darts among the lower branches of a Holly tree, tiny tail wagging in the air, calling at the top of its lungs. The “drip drip drip” of rainwater runs off the leaves in the canopy above me.

Walking back along the coast path small showers roll through, the trees above give a bit of protection from the weather. From somewhere in the distance, I can hear a loud “mooowww”, so I make a be line to the cows in Saxon field to make sure everyone is where there meant to be.

Halfway across south field the heavens open, and happy the cows are where there meant to be I make a beeline back to the shelter of the learning centre. While checking the weather a loud clap of thunder rolls cracks through the air.
