A blustery walk to the cliffs where the sea was a churning mass of white crests amid the blue and great water – a gorgeous sight to behold.

Skimming above the waves a string of 5 glorious white Gannets, gliding majestically, the white wings gleaming as they passed through a ray of sunshine.

Unusually high overhead the piping call of an Oystercatcher cut through the air, the bird watched as it flew above, the orange bill not visible but a quick view of the black and white markings was spotted.

On a bare stone was the upright shape of a Wheatear, the tail wagging up and down, the pale buff front the other notable feature until this bird took flight and flashed its white rump.

The remnant of some Autumn Ladies Tresses – pale grey green stems and frazzled brown ‘flowers’.

The yellow flowers of Bird’s-foot Trefoil still in bloom in places, alongside the seeds, showing a reason for its name, as the seeds are in three toe-like pods.

As another heavy shower hits me I hide against a dry-stone wall and under a wind shaped Hawthorn, where I find I have joined by a Blackbird.  This bird teasing the dark red haw berries from the twigs.

At my feet a patch of Wild Carrot, the white flower head showing just above the ground, under the flower an array of wispy green fronds.

From a patch of Gorse, the chatting call of a Stonechat, a wonderful sound which makes me turn to search out the bird, which was spotted after a bit of searching, the orange chest and dark head paler now the breeding season is over. As it moved white flashes on the wings were noted.

Across the grass a few snails were sliming, finally their time of year, the White-lipped Snail (Cepaea hortensis) and the Brown-lipped Snail (Cepaea nemoralis) both sliding slowly, check out the inside of the shell for the difference!
