The morning after the FoD do, which was such a great evening of ploughwoman’s, some drink and fun. Even last night the wildlife continues, notably a Hummingbird Hawk Moth wanted to get involved with the party whilst attracted to the Butterfly Bush, and on a small walk with some of the FoDs we spot 3x Roe Deer chomping away in South Field.
Today I decide to head via the Lighthouse path, around the lighthouse and up the diagonal path. Heading to the Lighthouse path through an area of Hawthorn, Holm Oak and Horse-chestnut, I hear a Chiffchaff, Chaffinch and Blue Tit. I get onto Lighthouse Road, where I hear a Great Tit, Wren, Firecrest, Robin, as well as spotting 3x Blackbirds – one female down rustling in dead leaves. I also spot a beautiful ‘orangey red’ flower – I take the Obsidentify to it, Montbretia.
Into lighthouse field, Ragwort, Wild Carrot, Brown Knapweed, Hawkweed Oxtongue, Wild Parsnip, Birds-foot Trefoil, Woolly Thistle, Restharrow, and Red Bartsia are all flora spotted. As well as a Whitethroat, Herring Gull, many a Meadow Brown, Goldfinches, Greenfinch, and a Pheasant in panic. Below and around the gully bridge spotted is another Robin, Speckled Wood butterfly, Chaffinch, a few more Meadow Browns, White-tailed bumblebee, lots of Old-man’s beard, below a large Field Maple and young Sycamore. On the other side, Ash and another Robin are spotted as well as the sound of Jackdaws.
On the way under the lighthouse and up to the top and through the diagonal path, spotted was a Jersey Tiger moth, Buff-tailed Bumblebee, Gatekeeper, Raven, Herring Gull, Shag, Small White butterfly, Greater Black-backed Gull, Water Pipit, Meadow Pipit, Great Tit, and a large dragonfly flying fast – either an Emperor or a Southern Hawker.
