A cloudy breezy morning, with the sun trying its best to poke through the cloud cover. Through into south field where bright yellow Buttercup are scattered throughout the grass. The tall slim stems of Pale Flax topped with a pale blue flower sway gently in the breeze. Red Clover creeps round the base of the grass.
Kidney Vetch and Birds-foot Trefoil have popped up throughout the hay rake quar. The tiny white flowers of Eye Bright catch my eye as I pass them, while in the trees behind the hay rake quar, Elder is covered in clumps of white flowers. Two bright pink Pyramidal Orchids can be seen growing in the shorter turf.
I pass a Dog Rose covered in pale pink flowers, some looking a bit battered and bruised after yesterday’s rain and wind. Below a Wild Carrot has a six spotted Lady Bird resting on the top of the large plate like flower.
A sea of Oxeye Daises greets me on entering Oxeye meadow. Bright pink flowers of Common Sainfoin catch my eye as I pass them though they are just starting to go over. Yellow Rattle is starting to go to seed the yellow flowers turning to brown pods.
Along the top of the gully, White Throats and Chaffinch can be heard calling down below. The bright red chest of a Chaffinch stands out from the green of the foliage below as its sings its hart out. The bright purple flowers of Bird Vetch add a pop of colour to the continuous green along the verges of the path.
I stop and sit at the top of field 6, listening to the Skylarks sing above the meadows and watching a Great Tit flit back and forth. A Bumblebee buzzes past to busy to stop a chat.
The sea looks rough this morning as I wonder if the bird boat will be going ahead. My prediction proves correct as I get back to the office to be informed the boat has had to be cancelled due to bad weather expended this afternoon.
