Another sunny spring morning, but a heavy dew across the ground, making it wet underfoot, and perhaps encouraging a little more growth from some of the flowers, such as Cowslips, Green-winged Orchids and Early Spider Orchids which are a little short and not in profusion as of yet.
The wonderful sound of the scratchy throaty call of a Common Whitethroat, is, to me, a real sign that Spring is really here with the arrival of this African migrant now making its home here on the south coast. Fantastic just to watch as they sing, the white throats puffing in and out, then as it rises in a flutter, to drop again back to the top of the twig.
Around me bird activity galore, from a Chiffchaff carrying a piece of dead leaf, probably for its nest, a Greenfinch in full sun on the top of a Hawthorn twig, a brilliant greeny-yellow and a Long-tailed Tit swaying on the rope of a Wild Clematis.
From a clump of Blackthorn came the long-reeling sound of a Grasshopper Warbler, not seen, but distinctively heard.
The quick-quick-slow song of a Chaffinch, competing with a second Chaffinch, both looking resplendent in buff pink, grey and blue.
As I walked between some clumps of brilliant gold Gorse a St Mark’s Fly was in flight, its black legs dangling below its body.
A brownish bird flies across to the Elder, through binoculars I can see it has yellowish and green markings and stripes – a great view of this Cirl Bunting as it flits to the ground.
Just out of the window 3 Robins are having a stand-off, one on the wall, one on the bollard the other on the ground, a quick flutter and they disperse.
