A bright sunny morning, though the cold wind is harsh as it slices into my face as I head out. In the sycamore directly outside the Learning Centre a Magpie beavers away building a nest. It fly’s back and forth with sticks to add to the organised chaos of the bundle of sticks, high up in the branches of the tree.
Heading out through the meadows the bright sun coupled with the harsh wind make my eyes water making it hard to see much. Though I do hear the sing song melody of a Skylark somewhere off in the distance. A flock of four Goldfinch wiz past over head the gentle sound of their chattering reaching me as they pass.
Blackthorns are covered in swelling flower buds ready to flower any day now. the fluttering of wings in one catches my attention as female Black Cap comes to land on the top branches, in the time it takes me to fight binoculars its flies off overhead and out of sight. Am unusual noise fills the air the honking of Geese, I look up to see Greylag Geese. They pass honking as they pass flying low over the scrub heading in the direction of the castle, as they fly towards the sun I lose sight of the large birds.
I head down to the cliffs where the Guillemots are noticeable by their absence, apart from six lonely individuals on the water below the ledge. Two Razor Bills join them on the water, while the ledge above stands empty. One Shag soars in and out of the cliff a couple of times before also landing on the water. As it soars, I can admire its long neck and large wingspan.
Up the diagonal path, where the Gorse is in full bloom either side of the path and the sweet scent of coconut wafts on the air towards me. In the woodland at the top of the path, Great Tits fill the branches of a Holm Oak above my head, the off flash of blue wings giving there location away.
