Wednesday 12 March, 2025

It is a rather chilly yet fair morning as I arrive, the northerly wind is rather biting, not spring like – but it is March! I am greeted with the sound of a Song Thrush and a Raven. I spot a Magpie with a twig in its mouth – as it flies off to a tree near the Learning Centre where there is a nest being created. I see many Goldfinches on top of a tree, a Crow hops along as I hear Robins singing and clicking away, as well as a Blackbird. I look over a dry-stone wall to the right of me – many a Lords and Ladies is spotted. I turn right down to the Castle, here if you look to your right there are many Primroses growing – many in bloom, and Stinking Iris.

I turn left into the Clifftop Trail, I see 2x Magpies, in the dell to the left of me I spot some palm trees, rather out of place on such a chilly morning in Dorset – but reminds me of the warmer Mediterranean weather. I continue the walk spotting 2x Wood Pigeons, Linnets are heard above me, many a Crow can be heard, as well as a Chaffinch.

I get to the viewpoint here of course are the Guillemots and Razorbills, as well as Fulmars, Jackdaws, Shags, a Herring Gull, Feral pigeons. To the right of me in scrub, heard is a Song Thrush, Robin, Great Tits, Blue Tits, and Crows. I walk on there are no Guillemots in their cliff cave – yet plenty on the English Channel. I do see a Shag with a what looks to be a twig in its mouth heading towards the cliffs, I also notice 2x Shags on the rocks below.

I head up the Diagonal Path to get back to the Learning Centre, the path is full of Yellow from the European Gorse, as I head into the copse I am greeted by the unmistakable sounds of a Great Tit and a Song Thrush, whilst I also hear a Greenfinch and Chaffinch as I walk through. Leaving the copse I hear a Blue Tit and Linnets above me.

Have a happy Wednesday!
