Sunday 09 March, 2025

The sun is shining I take my binoculars, and I head straight for the meadows. On the way I spot a Magpie whilst hearing Robins, Blackbirds, a Wren, a Song Thrush, Linnets, Goldfinches, and a Blue Tit. I walk through Field beside learning centre past Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Brambles, two Humans and a small dog walk past me.

I go into South Field and greeted with a Skylark sign stating: “Please keep dogs on leads to not disturb our nesting birds”. Skylarks are ground nesting birds, and dogs as lovely as many of them are can highly disturb and disrupt them, so put your dog on a lead and enjoy the Skylark presence.

In Saxon I can see the Hereford heifers in Jack Baiss and hear the sounds of a Great Tit and Linnets as well as spotting a Dunnock and a Wood Pigeon on an Ivy’d Blackthorn bush.

In Lighthouse field, I hear a Meadow Pipet as I pass and head under the lighthouse. Here I spot a Jackdaw on the cliff and a Kestrel flying above me but not sticking around and doing its usual hover motion. Past Tilly Whim, I see there is much less Guillemots than usual in the cliff – non at all from what I could see (later sore 20+ on camera in Rangers office) I was able to spot around 9 Guillemots on the sea however – No Razorbills though. Also spotted was Feral Pigeons, Jackdaws, Fulmars, a Shag on the sea, as well as a Great Tit on Tamarisk to left of me.

I head back to base through the small copse – here I spot and hear: Firecest, Goldfinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Robins, and Chaffinch. A Magpie and Crows were heard in the background seemingly outside the copse.
