Saturday 22 February, 2025

It’s Saturday morning and that time again for the diary. I step out of the car, put my walking boots on and clean my binoculars, whilst doing so I could hear Robins, Great Tits, Blue Tits, a Wren, as well as hearing and seeing Linnets fly above me. When I’m finally ready I walk into the Learning Centre/Weather station field area and head towards the Walling Centre. First, I see a Carrion Crow in the field, flying off as it spots me, continuing I see and hear a Blackbird, hear another Wren and spot a Dunnock, another Wren could be heard in the distance past the Walling Centre where there are some Holm Oaks.

I go into the lighthouse field, here one can see a strange foggy/mist hanging over the hill, whilst to the right of it is clear skies and to the left is bleak and overcast. Hear you can hear many a Robin, Great Tit and a Song Thrush in the near distance towards the small copse to the right of me. Past the quarry, many a Crow could be seen flying near me and doing their calls so reminiscent of a spooky Halloween like atmosphere – it is foggy after all! I then here what sounds like a Skylark, haven’t heard the like in some time, so I take the Merlin app and without any doubt the Merlin App states and highlights “Skylark” – Nice to finally hear that sound of Spring/Summer even when it is so dull and foggy.

At the bridge the species of birds heard and seen were Song Thrush, Wood Pigeons, Dunnock, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Robin, Wren, Feral Pigeon, Rook – all amongst the Brambles, Old Mans Beard, Blackthorn, Hawthorn, and trees full of ivy and lichens.

Straight down and past Tilly Whim, I look out and see the Guillemots leave their cave, once all had gone a Herring Gull swooped in looking rather dazed, then a few Guillemots sat back on the cliff cave again – ensuring the Herring Gull flew off, before they decided to fly out again. Also spotted here were 2x Black-Backed Gulls, Jackdaw, a Raven, and Fulmars more closer towards the Viewpoint.

Merlin App detected: Blue Tit, Robin, Blackbird, Dunnock, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Greenfinch, Skylark, Great Tit, Magpie, Song Thrush, Wren, Chaffinch.
