A return to the status quo for the weather this morning, a dull grey overcast sky blankets the park this morning. A strong wind battering the trees making the light drizzle seem worse than it is. I make my way through south field trudging through the sticky mud, while over head a flock of Meadow Pipits bounce across the horizon.

Ivy creeps up the bare branches of Blackthorn, the thick layer of bright green Ivy leaves giving the impression of a full canopy. Lime green berries adorn the top of branches of the Ivy, the cluster of small green seed heads clumped together.

Through into the top of light house field to see the cows, they happily munch away on the grass seemingly unfazed by the windy conditions. Two Pied Wagtails pass over head and come to land on the road, long black and white tails making them stand out on the dark grey road. They peck about in the cow leavings looking for some tasty morsels.

Through the woodland where I stop to admire a long covered in Turkey Tail Fungus. I walk along Caravan Terrace watching a Blue Tit flit about the branches on a Holm Oak. Further along a tiny bird catches my attention flitting about the scrub on the ledge above. A Goldcrest stands proud on the end of a branch before disappearing into the scrub.

Looking out to see at the end of Caravan Terrace, the back of my neck prickles with sense someone is watching me, I turn to see the large round brown eyes on a Roe Deer peering out at me from the steep slope behind me. We star at each other for a while until the deer loses its nerve and it runs off.

Round to the glass observation point where I spot two Fulmars making their way to the cliffs, they zigzag past each other. Once they make it to the cliff tops, they start to circle in and out of cliff top. A long raft of Guillemots stretches out into the sea.

Heading back up the hill past the castle parkrun volunteers are busying themselves preparing for this morning’s Christmas themed fancy dress run. People are turning up in some rather festive outfits already my favourite being the Christmas tree I passed on my way into the Learning Centre.
