Another dull overcast grey morning, though thankfully the rain has stopped. Black birds burst from the scrub lining the steep path down to the cliff tops. They settle on the path ahead of me before dramatically hurrying away over the edge of the cliff. A Robin calmly sings from the top a capper on the drystone wall lining the path. A blur of Great Tit wings speeds across the path ahead of me before coming to land on a Blackthorn. It’s joined by another Great Tit and a Blue Tit who pecks away at the fluffy seed head of Old Mans Beard. Nearby a streak of white flying past takes my attention away from the birds in front of me, as a Chaffinch comes to land in a tree nearby. It seems to be holding a seed in its beak, it looks around before flying off, deciding this isn’t the best breakfast spot.

My first Guillemot spot of this morning is off a lone individual coming in off Durlston head. Further out a large, sailed boat passes by resembling a pirate ship, heading in the direction of Poole.

Approaching the glass observation point the familiar grey back and straight wingspan of a Fulmar elegantly soaring in and out of the cliff face can be seen. Looking out many Fulmars can be seen some performing their usual ritual of bouncing in and out of the cliff’s others soaring low over the sea.

More Guillemots poor in the cliffs from all direction, tiny wings working overtime to get them on to the ledge. The ledge is now a hive of activity, though if you want to see them come quick as they haven’t been sticking around for long in the morning.
