Wednesday 6th November, 2024

One starts the day noticing how overcast it is with slight spots of rain hitting me from above, also above flocks of linnet’s swarm whilst I walk the car park heading towards the castle, heard was numerous robins chirping away as well as a Goldfinch. As I walk further a Wood Pigeon swops in front of me.

I pass the car park and take the track down to the castle 2x Grey Squirrels are seen scurrying along in front of me whilst a Crow sits on top of the castle. I turn right into the small woodland – I notice all the witches brooms I re-established on Halloween remained after potential thefts of originals. I then turn left onto the Diagonal Path, as I leave the Holm Oak/Sycamore dominant woodland habitat I end up in an open landscape with the path surrounded by Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Old Mans Beard, Gorse and Nettles on each side. Whilst I hear the English Channel hitting the land in the distance.

As I walk further, I hear a Jackdaw, and whilst I look out to sea to see if I can spot any Dolphins I see a black blob in the distance, I take my binoculars to it - it's a Shag flying low. In the foreground I hear and see a Goldcrest flying from one patch of Gorse to another. Further down, heard was a Blackbird and seen was a Herring Gull.

I aim to head straight on down as I leave the diagonal path, I hear a Raven calling as it fly’s passed me, as well as possible Guillemots to the left of me. I decide to continue further down the hill and come back up to investigate the sound of Guillemots then. As I got to the bottom, I sat on some rocks to contemplate various things happening in my life and around the world – all of these problems are taken away when I just look out at the calming small waves hitting the rocks and cliffs and noticing the beautiful colour and movement of the English Channel, I sit here for around 10 minutes just thinking.

As I walk back up something spectacular happened right in front of my eyes – I hear screeching and a Raven making noises - turned out it was two Peregrine Falcons fighting off the Raven – one of which aggressively swoops down at it… I could not see what happened to that Raven as the fight seemed to be determined below the cliff out of my sight, but one can assume that the Raven possibly got away. This was all happening while another Raven was eying it up on top of one of those shipping towers above the cliffs, keeping well away!

Passing the gate and walking along the coastal path I spot 2x Great Black-backed Gulls flying right of me, I then spot loads of Guillemots on the sea and flying around – presumably fishing, as I watch them a few Feral Pigeons swoop up over the cliff, I also spot a Shag flying away and back from the cliffs. I also notice that the Tamarisks have turned an 'orange’y' amber colour.

As I walk past the outlook and back up towards the castle I see two more cheeky Grey Squirrels feeding on something underneath the monocultural array of Holm Oaks. I also spot a Magpie swoop in front of me as well as a sudden sound of Guillemots behind me.
