Heading along the top of light house field Red Bartsia lines the path accompanied by the occasional purple Knapweed. An overcast morning with a fresh breeze makes for pleasant walking conditions, and obviously good running conditions as plenty of runner pass me this morning of there way to join Park Run. The droning sound of Bush Crickets can be heard coming from all the surrounding long grass.
Checking the electric fence myself and the volunteers put up on Wednesday, I watch a Kestrel hover over the gully below, before it dives down and out of sight. The sound of White Throats calling to each other across the gully also reaches me, though the birds stay out of sight.
In oxeye the meadow is alive with various flowers in full bloom. Rest Harrow creeps around at the bottom, the pale pink flowers standing out against the grass. Ragwort and Bristly Oxtongue sway gently as they tower over everyone else, there respective yellow flowers making them stand out. Yellow Rattle, now gone to seed, can be heard rattling if you listen very closely. One Brave Meadow Brown Butterfly braves the wind to fly across the meadow before ducking down into the safety of the grass.
In Hay Rake Quar I look for Autumn Ladies Tresses, though I’m unsuccessful. I do lots of other flowers, small Oxeye Daises and small Field Scabious are scattered about the area. The teeny tiny white flowers of Eye Bright catch the eye even with there small size. Some Kidney Vetch is still in flower just, while most of it has gone over. The large flowering heads of Wild Carrot can be seen in flower stretching across the whole field.
