A beautiful still sunny summers morning stretches across the park, as I head out for my morning patrol. Heading down light house road I can already see a few runners out for an early morning run before the heat of the day. An orange Soldier Beetle sits atop the cluster or bright yellow flowers of a Ragwort. The scratchy song of a White Throat emanates from a patch of scrub off to my left, before the bird shows itself and settles at the top of the scrub to sing.
Taking a pitstop on the stone bench on the seaward side of the road, a fishing boat slowly passes by on the calm sea. Herring Gulls in hot pursuit of the boat call to each other, hopeful the boat will lead to breakfast. Two Carrion Crows lounge around on the telephone wire above my head leading to the light house. Admiring the view and enjoying the peace and quite the only noise is waves lightly crashing into the cliffs, the constant hum of Bush Crickets and the occasional buzz of Bee as its passes.
Carrying on I keep one eye on the sea hopeful to see the Bluefin Tune a climber reported, jumping out of the water yesterday only 20m offshore. Though unlucky with my Tuna search I do spot a female and possible young Linnet, both missing their distinctive red stomach. The hum off a bank of Honey Suckle, Gorse and Bramble fill my ears as I pass. Hover Flies, Bees and Butterflies, all busy at work collecting nectar from flowers. The bush seems alive with Gate Keeper Butterflies with the odd Meadow Brown missed in.
Looking over the edge of the light house bridge a flash off electric blue catches the eye as a Small Blue Butterfly flutters around the vines of an Old Mans Beard in flower. Nearby a Green fritillary Butterfly perches on a Bramble leaf, sunning its distinctively spotted wings.
Up the steep slope of the light house field clouds of Gate Keeper and Meadow Brown Butterfly cross my path. The bright white of a Marbled White occasionally joins the mass of butterflies. The ting beating wings of a Lulworth Skipper also joins the mass passing by and landing on some grass nearby.
