A beautiful sunny warm morning, the perfect summers morning. I head for the cliff top trail to check the kid’s trail. A flock of about 6 Greenfinch swoops down from a Hawthorns branch to come to land in the grass below. Quietly chattering amongst themselves they peck around in the long grass looking for this morning’s breakfast. Occasionally one will fly back up to the Hawthorn above before all being disturbed by a passing dog walker.
Passing Dog Wood covered in a smattering of white flower, whilst some are starting to go to seed. The long meadow picnic area is a sea of white Wild Carrot flower heads. Bristly Ox Tongue, Willow Herb and Hemp-Agrimony block the view out to sea on entering the woodland, there tall flowering stems towering over the low wall.
Down in the dell a Red Admiral Butterfly sits atop the fluffy pale pink flower head of a Hemp-Agrimony. The Hemp-Agrimony and Willow Herb form a sea of pink flowers, interspersed with the dark red of Fushia in flower.
Heading along the coast a Gate Keeper Butterfly flutters past coming to land on the small fluffy white flowers of Old Mans Beard. Just past this bright shiny red berries adorn a Way Faring Tree, the shiny berries catching the morning sun light and glowing. A Six Spot Burnet Moth clings to the stem on a swaying grass blade. A Marbled White Butterfly flutters past and comes to land in a Gorse bush.
Sitting on the rock above the mild markers, the constant hum on Bush Crickets fills the air. Three Goldfinch pass by before disappearing into a Blackthorn. A Swallow swops past low to the road, it follows the contours of the road before zooming back up into the sky and out of sight.
