Walking through the woodland enjoying the summer weather the sound of Blue Tit’s resonate through the Holm Oaks and Enchanter’s Nightshade.
As one leaves the woodland and out onto a great view of the English Channel and onto a path with recently strimmed edges, the sound of various bush cricket and grasshopper species surrounds the area. Spotted was the Field Grasshopper and Meadow Grasshopper, as well as the Dark Bush-cricket.
Continuing the walk down some Butterfly species flutter around including the Marbled White and Meadow Brown, chilling on a Old Man’s Beard plant a Gatekeeper is spotted, as well as a Lulworth Skipper relaxing on Gorse. Meanwhile a Herring Gull is spotted swooping in at a couple of Feral Pigeons – Though the seem to fly away unscathed.
Down to the bottom of the path, and closer to the cliffs, one notices the deadly silence of the surrounding area. Gone are the Seabirds breeding and feeding during the last couple of months such as the Guillemots, Razorbill, Gannets, and Fulmar.
But, the beauty of the Sun reflecting on the slight channel waves still stuns and makes up for the silence, particularly with the dreadful wet, cold summer we seem to be currently experiencing!
As one walks along the cliffside a Large White butterfly is spotted fluttering, and Soldier Beetles are chilling on Wild Carrot, all taking full advantage of the sunshine.
Walking closer to the castle, to the left of me the beautiful, enchanting song of a Wren can be heard – though they don’t want to be spotted, and above the Holm Oaks two Goldfinches are spotted playing and singing together.
Taking a turn left away from the cliffs and heading towards the castle, Humans and Dinosaurs are sighted getting ready for the weekly Saturday parkrun – hopefully no Human will be eaten by a T-Rex.
