With the thick fog dropped over Durlston, visibility was down to 80metres, with the trees and hedges acting as dark shapes amidst the gloom.
The gorgeous sound of a Chaffinch broke through, a rush towards the end of its song. As it repeated the tune I was able to track this buff pink, blue and white finch to a branch of the Ash tree.
As I peered through my binoculars, in the background a thin black tail was dangling, and there on the end of it a pale pink Long-tailed Tit was to be seen, the chirping and warbling between the flock adding to the tunes.
Along the hedgerow the Blackthorn looks ready to burst into a sheet of white, but for now just one or two blossom flowers have opened up.
The dark green leaves of the Viburnum still topped with a few white flowers. While the bright green waxy leaves of Japanese Spindle are interspersed with the pink berries.
The delicate lilac of the Spring Crocus flowers to be found in the woods and by the car parks, but all closed up in the fog of this morning.
Across the meadows, which are extremely wet and muddy and slippery underfoot, a flock of Goldfinches flew, the tinkling call alerting my ears, then my eyes to this small charm. As I watched, they dropped into the Hawthorn tree, to continue their chattering. Flashes of gold, white and red as they moved, and as they did drops of water fell from the spiky twigs.
Patches of Ivy rambling over and across some of our dry-stone walls, the black berries still providing food for many species of bird.
A Blackbird spurting its loud glorious song from the Dogwood, the bird perched on the top of the reddish coloured twigs.
In amongst the mud, the footprints of a Badger spotted, the nail marks obvious in the mud, as were the narrow slots of Roe Deer.
