Again, I had to endure the unwanted attentions of Golden Retriever Layla. No one should have to endure a jumping and following dog no matter how “friendly” they are. Hopefully, the owner will now remedy this. Again, the Hereford Cattle were seen to be congregating around the Public Footpath entrance off Panorama Rd. I assumed they are hoping for some Hay to be delivered. With the Volunteer Work Party, we may relocate them tomorrow.

The sun remained obscured by cloud, but the visibility was such that I could see both St. Catherine’s and St. Alban’s Heads. Today, I noticed the difference with it being an Easterly Wind. From the Horseshoe Bridge I saw and heard a gentle flow of the Winterbourne. No such flow was seen upstream in Field 6. Wind rustled Tor Grass was about short turf which held pioneering Orchid leaves. Standing upon a rock exposure under the overhead wires I managed to unsettle a Roe Deer. It was seen and heard crashing through undergrowth on the gully floor. Departing from the large Yew was a Magpie that joined another on the inland slope of the valley. Slender, upright, and naked Sycamore stems wobbled in the breeze. I was unable to pull up a Holm Oak sapling, whose acorn presumably had been transported by a bird or mammal…. Unless it was you!

Off the Lighthouse a distant Gannet flew east. In the same direction of travel a Herring Gull chose to ascend into the sky above the gully mouth. Choosing to walk with the wind I head west thus circling the Lighthouse, where many Thistle leaves caressed the ground, then ascended to coastal ridge. Briefly a Meadow Pipit was heard upon the Green. Entering Saxon, fresh buds had sprung forth new leaves upon an Elder. This being on fresh leaves from a coppiced stump which also had deadwood. Inside a cavity Snails sheltered. I have just been disturbed by on of the Lifeboat Crew, who has recovered an exhausted, cold, and windswept Guillemot from elsewhere. With both Rangers prepare for the castle or work party, we agreed that he release the captive near the Lighthouse.
