After yesterday’s power issues the Castle and Café are back up and running.
Whilst standing watching the rays of the sun highlight the terracotta balustrade around the building, 2 Jackdaws landed on each of the four turrets providing a strange symmetry! Overhead the noisy flock of a Feral Pigeons were powering through the sky, the sounding like the air was tearing.
Flying around the cliffs a number of seabirds, including a Fulmar, the white head contrasting with the dappled grey of its wings, a wonderful soaring movement as it circled round.
The ledge full of Guillemots, the black and white bodies squashed together, at least 100 in my quick count. A few more swinging in large circles out to sea, the flitting black and white wings action catching the eye as they moved.
A glorious Gannet skimming above the waves, above the greeny-grey water topped with white crests, as the stunning white bird glided above.
Another Gannet was flying closer to the rocks, enabling me to admire the pale creamy-yellow head as well as the dark black wing-tipped.
Along the Hawthorn and Blackthorn hedgerow the dark berries of the Ivy taking pride of place, amid the deep green shiny leaves as this amazing plant clambers over the hidden dry-stone walls.
A few white flowers of the Viburnum from amongst the slightly furry dark green leaves. At the base, the bright orange berries of the Stinking Iris providing a splash of colour.
In the west the pale almost full Moon showing in the blue sky, definitely more moon than sun this morning.
A Bullfinch landed on the top of the Horse Chestnut, one of my favourite birds with the pink chest, black head and white rump.
