Monday 11th December 2023

A golden sun was rising as I began my walk today, peaking through a band of fairly thin low grey cloud, bathing the Country Park in a glow, varying from pink to yellow.

A loud croak came from a Raven as it flew towards and landed in a tall Black Pine of the Large Copse.  Taking flight from the ground was a Skylark, a flutter as it rose before flying off elsewhere.

Making its way slowly and delicately across the water laden meadow was a Fox, looking as if it was trying not to get its feet wet in the numerous puddles.

The large elongated berries of the Rosehips now standing out really well as the leaves have fallen off most of the trees and bushes. From one of the spine laden stems a Wren was calling, blasting out its song.

The sound of trickling water came from the gully, the stream running under the bridge, as I watched my eye was drawn to a movement in the Sycamore – looked like a leaf flapping in the breeze, but was a Goldcrest, such tiny little birds.  It moved, constantly disappearing behind thin branches making a good view impossible!

A Blue Tit flitting across the gap between the Sallow and berry laden Hawthorn, a Blackbird taking advantage of the deep red Haws.

Scattered across the short grass as few white flowers of the Daisy in bloom, as was a single yellow flower of a Rough Hawksbit.

A couple of Jackdaws perched in the Elm, right at the top, making the small twigs bend under their weight.  And a Carrion Crow watched from the comfort of a Blackthorn bush.

On either side of a opening, a pair of Magpies were perched on the dead branches of Hawthorn, long green-blue-black tails helping them balance.

Up by the Holm Oaks a Jay squawked loudly, making that my fifth corvid of the morning.
