A brief chat with the technicians suggested we might have a brief power outage as the we would transfer from generators to mains hopefully before 10am. I then heard distant Sheep and the vocals of Blackbirds.

Pairs of Carrion Crows emerged from the canopy of the Small Copse. Beneath, one stem of Winter Heliotrope flowered whilst on the other side of the wall the cattle had grazed the plant away. One Cock Pheasant sat at the edge of Gorse cover upon the gully slopes, it was another the called further inland. A pair of Shag flew east past the gully mouth, not long to be followed by another duo. As Anvil Point Lighthouse blinked two Jackdaws perched above upon a static weathervane.

I was not surprised to see Guillemot flight, but a cave ledge was packed such that fifteen birds resorted to the sloping boulder perch. I was delighted to spot a dozen Razorbills upon the brine amongst the dominant cliff nesters. White faced Guillemots retained winter plumage. A Peregrine Falcon appeared to fly through a flock of Feral Doves before landing, talons empty, upon the cliff top. It was a treat to spot two Thrift flowers At least two Fulmar were in flight, one followed the others circular flight pattern. I believed a third bird also was active.

Today there were two crew upon the red hulled vessel E499 that was laden with pots and marker buoys. Of course, Herring Gulls and a Greater Black Backed Gull took interest in the boat. Deep below the Great Globe a Rock Pipit explored a scat marked ledge. A Squirrel scampered amongst Holm Oak by the Observation Point as I smelt the scent of a Fox. Standing upright yet naked were the stems of Elm below the stone sea chart. Three Daffodils were well on their way to nearly opening their flowers at the Castle entrance. Beside stood the leaf blades of Three-Cornered Leek.

Back at the centre the sound of hidden Song Thrush rang out. Similarly, a Green Woodpecker was heard but not seen. Nevertheless a pleasant start!
