Another wet and windy day, I was initially excited to do my morning patrol to be able to test out my new binoculars, but the weather had other plans. I start my walk by heading down past the dell where Magpies can he heard shouting at each other overhead. Up in a tree to my right a rather soggy looking Black Bird clung to the branches as the tree swayed.
A Shag flew past high in sky before ducking down suddenly and coming to land on the water in Durlston bay. Further around at the glass observation point I spot some Gannets struggling against the win heading towards the light house. As I get further round the cliff path, they are joining by a further four individuals, they start to circle one area before one takes a dramatic dive in the water. Then deciding that this area is not as lucrative as once thought.
A Great Backed Gull seemed hover in the sky cartoon style desperately flapping its wings against the wind but seemingly not getting very far. Round at Tilly whim I look back towards the Guillemot ledge to see it’s a full house today, most with there backs turned against the wind while the few who stand looking out stand out due to there white stomachs. A few brave individuals can be seen floating around on the water below.
I scramble up the hill past the way markers trying not slipe and slide in the mud. I head to oxeye meadow where I see two Carin Crows pecking around in the field. At this point I’m soaked through and decide it’s a good time to head back to the centre.
Top tip wear some wellies if out having a new years eve walk today!
