Looking up at the sky as I left the centre today, I stop the moon, a half-moon, still visible as the sun is still rising. I get to the wall that is being rebuilt by some volunteers just at the start of the play trail. Here I spot some Squirrels and Black Birds scrapping around in the leaf litter. Two Blue tits come to land on a Holm Oak branch above my head, they jump around the branches for a while before flying off and disappearing into some Bramble.
Walking along the bridge to caravan terrace a Squirrel seems to keep pace with me walking along the wall to my left, it eventually ducks out heading down into the dell. On caravan terrace Old Man’s Beard snakes in and out of bramble, giving the illusion that the bramble is coved in cotton balls.
Walking down to the cliffs a Great Black Backed Gull fly’s level to my eye line giving me the chance to get a great look at its massive wingspan. Further round at the globe a Magpie hops up the steps towards the globe. As I walk round the corner past the glass observation point movement in the Holm Oak to my right catches my eye, a tiny Goldcrest flits around the branches of the tree just above my head.
Just before tilly whim I stop to have a look round to see if I can stop a Peregrine Falcon, I scan the cliff tops looking for a glimpse of this bird. Just as I’m about to give up I look down just in front of me to get the perfect view of the bird I was looking for. Why didn’t I do that to start with? It stares at me for a while before going back to scanning the coastline in front of it in wait for breakfast to fly past. from this vantage point I can get a good look at its beautiful striped underside and at its sharp beak. While I was watching the Peregrine a fishing boat sails past with a large flock of Herring Gulls chasing it down.
When I get back to the centre for a warming cup of tea, Ben comes into the office to announce there is a Tree Creeper. Me, Katie and Ben all make our way outside to watch this tiny bird “creep” its way up the wall of the lower toilet block, which seemed an odd place to be seeing this bird, possibly this wall is home to lots of yummy bugs.
