I walk over frozen puddles the satisfying sound of crunching ice filling my cold ears, as I head to wards the small copse this morning. The odd flake still visible from the small amount of snow that fell yesterday. Even this small amount of snow is exciting this near to Christmas!

The sounds of Woodpigeons float down from high up in the trees as well as the odd Robin calling. As I’m going through gates, I struggle with the latches which have been frozen shut obviously being the first one through them this morning. As I approach the saxon field gate movement under a Hawthorn catches my eye I turn to just about see a Chiffchaff before it disappears out of view. Just through the gate a Robin pecks at the frozen ground fruitlessly.

I slip around on the frozen muddy path between the meadows, where I spot some discarded Hawthorn berries on the path. As I head back through the meadows towards the centre a Grey Herron flew past in the distance easily identified due to its long legs, it headed inland before disappearing out of sight.

I walk past the top of the mile markers where a flash of green alerts me to a Green Woodpecker flying down past the mile markers. A nice surprise this morning as I usually hear them and never see them. A Bullfinch bursts out of a bush to my left before coming to land on the burn pill at the walling centre.
