A rainy start to the morning so I head to the woodlands to be sheltered from the rain slightly. When I entered the woodlands by the top of the play trail, what I believed to be a Raven took off heading towards the castle being obscured by the tree line. Looking out to sea the water seemed very calm after yesterday’s strong winds. One lone sailing boat could be seen. While further out to sea more black clouds could be seen looming closer.
I walk along the play tail for a while where a Squirrel runs out in front of me and scrambles up the nearest Holm oak. Either side of the path Stinking Iris can be seen with bright red berries adorning the tops of the flowering stems. Getting back on to the coast path newly fallen Sycamore leaves crunch under foot not quite soaked through yet by the rain. Every now and then pops of white from the underside of the nearby White Poplar leaves stand out from the other brown and yellow leaves.
Further along a Privets leaves seem shiny after a coating of rain and the calming sound of rain dripping off trees can be heard all around. A Bamboos leaves sag under the weight of the rain. While from somewhere behind the bamboo a Robin can be heard singing.
I head back up the coast path towards the castle, as I pass the hammock on the play trail, I notice a Squirrel taking full advantage of this play feature to enjoy an acorn. As I get to the top of the timeline a hen Pheasant appears from behind the dell wall, where it then notices me and hops back over the wall.
Before heading back to the centre, I stop to have quick look over the mile markers. As I’m standing there a Goldfinch and a Great tit fly past into some Blackthorn. Further down the field towards the mile markers three Carrion Crows are perched in a tree seemingly taking cover from the rain.
