I started my walk this morning going through the picnic area at the top of long meadow. Here I spotted two Marbled White Butterfly, a Meadow Brown Butterfly and Small Skipper Butterfly, all dancing above the shorter grass at the edge of the meadow. Walking under a Lime Tree to head into the woods I noticed the tree’s leaves seemed slightly limb probably due to the warm weather and lack of rain recently. At the edge of the path a Buff Tail Bumblebee was having a nectar meal on a Spear Thistle.
As I looked out to sea the sun was shining on the water making it look sparkly and very welcoming on a hot day like today. I carried on walking to the cliffs passing the castle where there is Buddleia growing and smells amazing as I walk past. Some Clematis is creeping over the walls. The flowers are white and have tiny spikey looking petals.
Out to see I can see a Great Black Backed Gull bobbing around on the water taking a well-deserved rest. I can hear some Guillemots but am unable to see them, while some Shags fly past in either direction. I stop to have a quick walk around the globe sussing out some work for the volunteers to do today. At the top I watch a sailing boat float by on the water.
Continuing my walk a Swallow zig zags past overhead. A Stone Chat rushes out of Sycamore and immediately dives back into a Tamarisk. Along the Cliffs a Fulmar swoops past very close to the cliff with its wing almost brushing the stone. Two Goldfinch also sit atop a Holm Oak appearing to be observing their surroundings.
I walk back up past the mile markers, I stop at the top one to take a short break. From hear I can see another sailing boat gently floating by on the calm sea, two Herring Gulls rushing past in stark contrast to the boat lazily floating by. I listen to the almost constant buzz of the grasshoppers from all around mixed in with the ever-changing bird song coming from all directions. After a short break I head back to the centre.
