The early morning began with a superb view of a female Roe Deer, slowly chewing as she was lying up amongst the grasses and Bulbous Buttercups.
Pouring down from the almost all blue sky, came the wonderful song of a Skylark, just a dot high above me, but later I was able to enjoy a great view as on perched helpfully on a Yellow Meadow Ant hill. The markings on this bird a combination of intricate browns and whites – really quite beautiful.
Just outside, at the nest box and argument taking place between a House Sparrow and a Blue Tit. The Blue Tit attempting to get into the small hole while the larger House Sparrow chasing it off, then stopping to peer in - fascinating.
On the sea a mass of black and white blobs scattered, as some of the Guillemots take a break from their egg incubating responsibilities (their partner taking care of that for the time being).
A fly past of more than twenty five juvenile Herring Gulls – each sporting one of the variety of age related plumages.
A report from earlier of a Grey Seal and a Common Seal both passing by.
A Kestrel took off, a zigzag flight and then a quick hover, while from the top of a bright yellow flowered Gorse was a Stonechat. This male looking very smart with its black head and white collar, plus orange front.
Hanging off the stem of a Salad Burnet was a globule of Cuckoo Spit, this mass of bubbles protecting a small Froghopper nymph.
Across the downs, the Kidney Vetch is large yellow heads are out, while the more delicate Horseshoe Vetch is combining with the Chalk Milkwort to provide more patches of yellow and blue colour.
A wonderful stand of Early Purple Orchids, with a Common Whitethroat scratchily singing above, as it perched on the blossoming Apple tree.
