A hen Pheasant crossed the entrance road, a latter I heard Pheasant cockcrow’s from near the gully bridge and the small Copse thus suggesting two males. Investigating the car park margins was a Magpie. A Blue Tit flew out of the garden to rest in a Hawthorn. Passing the Measured Mile Markers, the was the occasional light clang of metal as the wind wailed through the structure. Heading east wards along the coast path I walked into a wind that rattled Tamarisk branches. Flying east low over the sea were a Gannet duo, soon followed by a Greater Black Backed Gull. Off Tilly Whim sat a few Guillemots upon the sea where they were beyond the reflected cliff face swell. Today the sea bird cliff cave occupancy caused half a dozen to use the sloping boulder perch. As waves and spray attempted to shower the cave colony a Shag elected to depart the cliff face. Fulmars were in active flight.

I turned and headed west descending the bedrock steps into the shade and shelter of the gully mouth. Plenty of froth was upon the sea, and succulent leaves only were out on the edge. Heading up the gully ravine I walked over a carpet of Red Fescue, Celandines and passed occasional Blue Bells in flower. Passing under the overhead wires I heard the wind as it passed about them. Both Chiff Chaff and Skylark played their distinctive sounds. Whilst the gully Yew wobble jellylike, tall slender and bare Sycamore stems swayed. Within the summit of a Goat Willow crown and nest was exposed. Fresh Woodsage leaves were underfoot, I was to also find Milkwort in flower, upon a miniature cliff face beside a cattle track on a downland slope. It was a novelty hearing a daytime Tawny Owl call from the upper gully scrub. I passed a male Stonechat whilst ascending the downland slope. Other fresh leaves included those of Dock, the feathery ones of Wild Carrot and the distinctive leaves of Yellow Vetchling. Other leaves are yet to be identified!
