Saturday 9th April 2022

A glorious morning, and I was greeted by the melodious song of a Chaffinch as it proclaimed from its perch, amongst the newly opened buds of an old Sycamore.  This male looking quite resplendent in buff pink and slate blue.

A waft of aroma attracted me to a Bay tree which is covered in pale yellow balls of blossom, the sunshine bringing out the full glory of this herb.

A squawk of a Jay heard as it moved between the bare Ash and a Horse Chestnut, whose three leaves are now a fairly small and bright green.

The Blackthorn blossom looks amazing today, such a delicate flower, a contrast to its vicious spikes!

Through the woods the leaves of Ramsons are now covering the ground in a mass of green, while the glade is carpeted with Lesser Celandine, most of which was waiting for the sun to reach it before opening up for the day.

Splashes of different yellow from the various varieties of Daffodils provide a lovely display.  Lower to the ground the small off-white flowers of Comfrey were attracting a Buff-tailed Bumble Bee, so a few moments spent admiring how this bee was moving amongst the flower tubes.

A Great Tit was singing loudly from the Macrocarpa while a Blue Tit was hopping up and down the trunk of the Holm Oak, while from the landslip the continuous two-tone call of a Chiffchaff was echoing around.

Around towards the cliffs where the ‘park run’ volunteers were just preparing for the weekly 5km run (jog, stroll or walk) around – a fantastic sunny morning in store from them.

On the water Guillemots were scattered like confetti, while on the ledges many more crammed in – come into the Visitor Centre (at the Castle) to see the live images of these wonderful birds.
