Upon arrival the golden orb that was the sun had risen high in the sky whilst the moon was in a vey thin waning crescent state. Initially cloud was thin and high. It was odd seeing the hilltops of the Isle of Wight protruding above its own halo of sea mist. Frost was upon the recently cut grassy edge of the diagonal path. One Carrion Crow perched upon the lower Mile Marker. Half a dozen Hereford Cattle grazed the Goat Plot.

Guillemots were seen upon the sea whilst a dozen of them flew low over the sea and followed the coastline westward. I passed a sunbeam that reached Tilly Whim ledge. Today a trio of Fulmars were active off the cliff face whilst some seventy Guillemots were in their cave.

Both the Holly and Yew stood out amongst the bare branches in the gully. As I passed the Lighthouse a Peregrine Falcon flew over me a headed east. Vapour trails marked the sky and there was the rumble of the Condor ferry as it left Poole. Amongst the base of the Lighthouse perimeter wall, I noticed Stonecrop amongst Red Fescue blades and Thrift tufts. Jackdaws were amongst the cliff top Tamarisk and upon the building chimney pot and roof gable ends. I heard cattle taring up grass blades from the green. I entered the cold shade of the bridge as bird song rang out. Both Chaffinch and Robin were heard whilst a Blue Tit and Jay were seen. I watched a Magpie land between the shoulder blades of a cow.

A duo of Ravens land upon a mile marker as a flock of unidentified small birds passed over the gully mouth. I scaled the downland slope meandering between cow pats and noted the quarried landscape features, ant hills and light scrub that the cattle had exposed. Entering Saxon, I heard a distant Song Thrush and an aircraft passing overhead. A mixed morning of sunshine and coldness!
