Sunday 19th December 2021

The morning accompanied by a rolling dank fog!

The sound of the Robins ‘ticking’ the backdrop to my patrol.  These bright red-orange chested birds seemed to be seen on many of the Blackthorn and Hawthorn bushes as I walked round.

Rambling across the Blackthorn was the ropes of Old Man’s Beard, the wispy white heads dangling across, adding to the Christmassy feel of the day – all ready for this mornings Festive fun run

A couple of Redwings popped up from the Bramble scrub, a flash of red from under their wings as they moved, but it was the pale stripe above the eye that actually caught the eye first.

Down to the cliffs and a skein of 5 Brent Geese were heading east, their stocky shape and white rumps making them easy to identify (I generally find the birds passing by at distance difficult!)

Flying around in a few circles and then further out were a few Guillemots, black and white wings flitting, but today the ledges were bare.

On the rock face a Shag was standing, the silhouette showing the off its crest, nearby another two Shags both showing off their crests as well.  These crests are associated with breeding so these are preparing early!

Strutting around the cliffs a couple of Rock Pipits, the greyish markings blending well with the rocks.

From the top of a clump of round papery silver heads of Thrift, a stonechat took flight, rising up before landing again on the nearby dead stems of Golden Samphire.

From the top of the mile marker a Raven croaked loudly, alerting me to this huge corvid, on the other mile marker a much smaller Jackdaw chuckled.
