Overcast and windy this morning. Under the sound of gusts was the sound of birds singing. Although they weren’t particularly active, they were all very vocal. Plenty of Blackbirds, Robins, Dunnocks, Wrens and Goldcrest attempting to be heard over the wind.

Looking south from the learning centre, I could see almost hundred Jackdaws travelling as a cloud across the clifftops. I went to see what the commotion was, but they disbanded as quickly as they formed. I changed course and headed west towards the lighthouse.

I wondered around the outside of the lighthouse where plenty of Rock Pipits shot into the air calling as I wondered by. A Roe Deer sat watching me, too lazy to run away… As I climbed the gully to re-join the coast path a strange buoy was bobbing in the sea. It disappeared, then reappeared several metres away making its way down the coast. It was a Grey Seal, which appeared to be simply playing in the waves.

A couple of Ravens passed over, one taking a rest on top of the mile markers. It had landed for the best part of 3 seconds before two Peregrines bombed the raven, forcing it to take off and fight back!

The Guillemots were everywhere this morning, bobbing on the water, flying out to see and sat on the ledge, everywhere you looked you could spot a guillemot. A single Fulmar passed over, effortless twitched its wing tips as it stuck to the tops of the cliff tops like a rollercoaster on its rails, rising, falling and somersaulting. The odd Shag were fishing out at sea and two Gannets skimmed the seas surface searching for their breakie.

In the woodland a mixed species flock of great tits, blue tits and Long-tailed tits passed through, calling to each other constantly. I turned over a couple of logs. The first few yielded plenty of woodlice, annelid worms, and a leopard slug but the last log I turned over had a millipede underneath. A Polydosmus angustus, which looks like a stretched-out woodlouse!
