Overcast and bit miserable today! The sun did make a vague attempt to breakthrough the clouds but, unfortunately, failed.
First stop, Large Copse. 2 Ravens were perched on top of the black pines, calling loudly whilst several Jays past through, burying their acorn cashes and moving on to find the next.
Plenty of Redwing about the park, filling up on what berries are still around.
Overhead, finch flocks are being particularly vocal, Goldfinch, Linnets and the odd Chaffinch and Bullfinch about. Another birder had better luck than me with finch sightings this morning seeing a Brambling and Redpoll.
Lighthouse field was filled with Woodpigeons, the odd flock also passed over. A gang of Jackdaws perched in sycamore watched me wonder by. In the Gully were European Robin, Stonechat, Song Thrush, Long-tailed tit, Chiffchaff, Blue Tit and Great Tit. Then all scattered when a Kestrel hovered over before being seen off by a Carrion Crow. A Horde of jackdaws
Plenty more fungi emerging including the squishy looking Meadow Puffball, Field Blewit, Slender Parasol, Pale Brittlestem and Mowers Mushroom.
3 types of gull out at sea today, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Great Black-backed Gull and Herring Gull. The guillemot ledge was full of little suited Guillemots and beneath sat a Shag preening.
The best sighting of the day was saved till last. Just outside the learning centre, a teeny tiny ball of fluff with a sniffling nose franticly scurried between my legs! It was a Pygmy Shrew! Pygmy Shrews are constantly on the search for food and can eat over their entire body weight in arthropods every single day!
