Swallows and a pair of Carrion Crows Passed over the car parks. In Reservoir Copse the wind moved Ash, Sycamore, Crack Willow and Poplar.  Dangling from Spindle were its pink four segment fruits. Windblown leaves and pine needles were attempting to hide the surface on castle approach. Silently a train of Jackdaw passed over the castle. Upon the Dell bridge both a Magpie and Grey Squirrel were active.

Near Durlston Head on the rocks below perched a Black Headed Gull near the sea. A Shag flew out from the head flying seawards in the direction of the urban coast. A Greater Black Backed Gull travelled far enough to sea down into the bay before returning to the west. More Swallows were seen arriving across the bay. One Valerian stem still showing pink flowers rose upon from the Old Man’s Beard cover that smothered the coastal dry-stone wall. The sun appeared between the clouds and cast my shadow below the globe. From the foot of the costal wall stood Charlock and Rock Samphire in flower. Off-shore there were many white wavelets. And there upon the cliff edge sat a Peregrine Falcon, beside a spray of feathers from a previous kill. The bird faced west would later fly past me at the gully mouth.

At the foot of the cliffs the white throat indicated the its was a Cormorant spreading, shaking, and drying its wings. A score of chattering Jackdaw headed west from the observation point.

At the gully mouth a Rock Pipit explored the rocky edge whilst vin land a Kestrel flew. The Kestrel spent time hovering and riding thermals between the mile markers and overhead wires. Under the wires I was to hear a Stonechat calling. It was pleasant to see a Blackcaps in an Elder below lighthouse bridge. The two Hen Pheasants became visible despite the good cover of downland grassland.

I studied the inland electricity pole and noticed several small Woodpecker holes that had been drilled to retrieve beetle larvae. Just before taking a weather reading, a two-inch-long Fox Moth caterpillar was seen spread out upon a Blackthorn.
